Covid -19 Situation
As of 05 May 2022, the Government has decided to re-categorize the risk level of covid-19 for its six provinces based on data collected. The Shefa Province has moved to Recovery level 1, Sanma province to recovery level 2 while Torba province and Pentecost and Tanna, Erromango and Aneityum remain at Alert Level 3 (Very High risk) due to large-scale community transmission. Each level describes the type of measures members of the public need to take based on the risk level. The Government through the Ministry of Health has made the decision for the public to be aware of the current covid-19 situation happening in the country. Restrictions on the number of persons in Service Buses and Public Gatherings have been eased.
Given the ease of total lockdown and restrictions lifted, the Ministry of Health has considered the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as one of the main requirements for business houses to have to allow the operation of their services to continue in the coming months. All businesses are reminded to apply the Standard Operating Procedures in the workplaces. A SOP is a set of super clear, step-by-step instructions that describe how to complete routine tasks and for businesses to align this COVID safe approach. A SOP will be required by the Government through the Ministry of Health if businesses intend to apply to operate during Alert levels1, 2 and 3 / possible lockdown. Each industry will have different SOP guidelines; therefore, it is very important to develop one at this point in time.
Vanuatu Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (VFIPA) supports the Government in allowing the SOP initiative to be put in place. VFIPA encourage all foreign investments currently operating in the country to operate their businesses through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to make sure they are guided in line with health measures.
