Vanuatu has now two COVID-19 posts at its borders as announced by the country's Prime Minister in a televised press statement yesterday evening.

The 2 active cases were part of an 18 passenger flight that came in from New Caledonia on Friday the 22nd of October.

In his press statement, Prime Minister Bob Loughman Weibur, stated that the other passengers all produced negative results except for the two positive cases registered.

He continued to state that all necessary and strict health measures were undertaken on this flight as is done with all flights however the PRC testing that was carried out by health officials yesterday revealed the two positive COVID-19 status for the two passengers.

The PM is urging all citizens who have not been vaccinated yet to make their way to the national vaccination center and receive their injections. The same message was emphasized for citizens with only one dose to complete their vaccination.

Vanuatu has maintained a high standard of protocols in border control since the beginning of the pandemic and has continued to do so however the challenge to keep borders closed while vaccination rates are still low is a key challenge for the government.
