VIPA signs MOU with China Entrepreneurs Union

Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority (VIPA) represented by its chairman Mr Lionel Kaluat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Entrepreneurs Union, represented by the Union's Deputy President Mr. Peter Zhang. This understanding marks the beginning of a stronger collaboration between the two parties to pursue investment developments in Vanuatu.

This visit by the union's representatives and hence the signing of the MOU between VIPA and the Union was a result of a recent visit (2016) to China made by the Vanuatu Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for VIPA Hon Joe Natuman. The Deputy Prime Minister met with the staff of the China Entrepreneurs Union and following discussions on existing developments through their excellent bilateral relations so far , the Minister invited the union to visit Vanuatu on an exploration trip.

While in Vanuatu, the team visited a number of key government departments and held discussions with them; VIPA, Department of Industry and Department Tourism. Discussions were focused in understanding the process involved in setting a business in Vanuatu, key priority sectors/industries and what the Government can offer.

Learning of the potential the Sanma Province has especially in the coconut and tourism industries, the team finally flew to Santo to see things themselves. Their trip was coordinated by the Department of Industries through its Luganville-based officer, Mr Keith Antfalo.

The team was fortunate enough to be able to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister, who actually invited them over. The Minister was surprised but very happy that his invitation did not fall over. Outcome of their discussion with the Minister has been reassuring. The team will be making their second visit to the country in 2017.
