COVID-19 Vaccine Indemnity
Vanuatu will soon join its close neighbours in the region to finally get access to the covid-19 vaccine. While citizens of the neighbouring countries may have already receiving shots from this vaccine, Vanuatu is awaiting Government’s endorsement for the use of the vaccine.
The first extra ordinary session of the Parliament will take place on the 20th of April 2021. Among the bills during the session is the COVID-19 Vaccine indemnity document which will be tabled through a motion, addressing the issue of security from legal liability. Director General of Health, Mr Russel Tamata is working closely with the Government responsible to include the document on the agenda and to get the assurance before progressing further with this initiative. Vanuatu has registered with COVAX and has sent its indemnity letter. In order to seek approval, the document must be tabled at the commencement of sittings and signing of the indemnity agreement between the manufacturer and the Vanuatu Government.
Consultation and awareness of the COVID-19 vaccine will begin with supports from the Government and other agencies for collaborative efforts into this matter. Reopening the borders will be a step forward once Vanuatu receive its COVID-19 vaccine, joining other neighbouring countries in prioritizing vaccine rollout. When accessing COVID-19 vaccine, it will have positive impact, especially towards existing business who are still surviving in this critical time.
